How To Check A Postal Forwarding Without Leaving Your Home Or Office.by Jay Rosenzweig
Have you ever waited in line for hours at the post office in order to check a mail forwarding on someone who left town owing you money or you are trying to track down a friend? Then, when you get to the front of the line, you fill out the postal forwarding form, pay the fee and then find out there is no postal forwarding on file with the post office.
Most people do not realize that one does not have to go to the post office to run a postal forwarding. All you have to do is write their old address on the envelope and write in all capital letters next to it, the words "ADDRESS CORRECTION REQUESTED, DO NOT FORWARD." Make sure that you put your address in the return address spot on the envelope in order that the post office has an address to return the envelope to.
I have been conducting mail forwarding checks in my business for more than 25 years and about 95% of the time these envelopes get returned to me with either a new address for the person or with the the words "forwarding order expired," or "No forwarding address on File." Most of the time, the post office will provide me with the address where the mail was being forwarded to before the order expired.
If you follow the above steps. you can save time and money when conducting postal forwarding searches. The only negative aspect of sending a letter, instead of traveling to the post office, is that the post office takes about 10 working days or more to get the letter back to you. If you have the time, then I suggest following the above steps.
Good luck in your searches.
